Soaring Spirits: The Second Annual TRT Paper Airplane Competition

August 2022 marked the much-anticipated return of the Two River Theater's Paper Airplane Competition, a cherished tradition that started in 2015. This event is one of my favorite staff socials to plan, as it brings together staff and board members, fostering camaraderie and fun outside of our usual work setting.

Reviving a Beloved Tradition

After a seven-year hiatus, we decided it was time to bring back the joy and creativity of our paper airplane competition. With a fresh set of rules and an exciting new format, the 2022 competition was destined to be a hit. I took great pleasure in crafting this event, ensuring that every detail contributed to an unforgettable experience for all participants.

A Festive Flight

Studio A was transformed into an aviator’s paradise with custom-made TRT paper airplane banners. Paper airplane building stations were strategically placed throughout the space, encouraging creativity and ingenuity among our contestants. Each station offered colorful paper and step-by-step instructions for various airplane designs, ensuring one could craft their perfect flyer.

The Thrill of Competition

The competition was structured into several engaging rounds, including target practice, hang-time, distance, and accuracy. Participants were free to roam from station to station, accumulating points to achieve a grand total. The atmosphere buzzed with excitement as competitors tested their skills and pushed the boundaries of paper aviation.

Celebrating Every Pilot

Every participant received a special pilot's badge, lovingly handcrafted by me, as a token of appreciation for their enthusiasm and participation. These badges were a hit, serving as a memento of the day's fun and a symbol of the camaraderie we all shared.

Sharing the Joy

Inspired by the success and positive feedback from the event, I decided to make digital downloads of the decorations available on my Etsy store. Now, anyone can bring a touch of our paper airplane magic to their own gatherings, spreading joy and creativity far beyond our walls.
