Materials Needed

  • Two paper body pieces
  • A straw
  • A pair of wings
  • A piece of wire
  • Tape
  • Scissors (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Assemble the Body

  1. Attach the First Body Piece:

    • Take the first paper body piece.
    • Align it with the top of the straw.
    • Secure it in place by taping it to the straw.
  2. Attach the Second Body Piece:
    • Take the second paper body piece.
    • Align it with the top of the straw on the opposite side of the first body piece.
    • Use tape to attach it to the straw, ensuring it is directly opposite the first piece.
  3. Secure the Body Pieces Together:
    • Once both pieces are attached to the straw, tape them together along the edges to form a complete bird body.

Step 2: Add the Wings

  1. Attach the Wings:
    • Take the wings and position them at the top of the bird’s body.
    • Place a piece of tape on each side of the body to secure the wings in place.

Step 3: Prepare and Attach the Wire

  1. Wrap the Wire:
    • Take the wire and loosely wrap it around the straw two times.
    • Ensure it is not too tight, allowing it to move smoothly up and down the straw.
  2. Shape the Wire:
    • Bend the wire into a V shape, with the point of the V pointing downwards.
  3. Attach the Wire to the Wings:
    • Take each end of the wire and bend them slightly to fit under the wings.
    • Use tape to secure each end of the wire underneath the respective wing.

Step 4: Operate the Puppet

  • Move the Wire:
    • Gently move the wire up and down along the straw.
    • This action will make the wings flap, bringing your paper puppet bird to life!

Enjoy your new paper puppet bird! You can personalize it by adding colors, patterns, or other decorations to make it uniquely yours.
