Build Your Own Cardboard Gingerbread House

Creating a cardboard gingerbread house can be a delightful and festive activity. Whether you're using a craft kit or your own materials, these step-by-step instructions will guide you through building and decorating your holiday masterpiece.

Step 1: Assemble the Walls

  • Gather Your Pieces: You will need two wall pieces, two roof pieces, a front, and a back piece, and a door.
  • Attach the Walls: Glue or tape the two wall pieces to the front of the house. Ensure all edges are aligned. The front and back pieces are interchangeable; just make sure the marked sides face inward.

Step 2: Add the Roof

  • Place the First Roof Piece: Take one roof piece and attach it to the top of the house using glue or tape. Align the edge with the peak and center it.

  • Attach the Second Roof Piece: Repeat the process on the opposite side with the other roof piece.

  • Add the Door: Secure the door to the front of your house using glue or tape.

Step 3 Craft a House into a Home 

To decorate your holiday home, you can use whatever material you have on hand. Crafting is about making use of what you have! Here are some suggestions:

  • Add Pipe Cleaners: Decorate the edges of the door and roof with pipe cleaners for a festive touch.
  • Create a Door Handle: Attach a pom pom to the door for a charming handle.
  • Use Paper Straws: Flatten paper straws and attach them to the four corners of the house for structural and decorative accents.
  • Apply Stickers: Decorate the house with stickers. If using a craft kit, note that sticker designs may vary annually.
