A Week of Potty Progress and Toilet Paper Nostalgia

Monday was National Toilet Paper Day, which just happen to coincide with a significant milestone in our household: my daughter Tess began potty training this week. As we celebrated her first steps towards bathroom independence, I remembered decorations I had from two years ago when one of our summer socials at work landed on National Toilet Paper Day.

In 2023, we hosted a series of summer socials where our board members mingled with the staff of Two River Theater. Our Company Connections committee loved coming up with adorably funny themes for each happy hour. When Michele discovered it was National Toiler Paper Day - we decided to roll with it and embrace the quirky holiday as our happy hour theme.

With enthusiasm, I transformed our usual gathering space into a whimsical celebration of the humble toilet paper roll. I designed TRT toilet paper banners and framed cute images of toilet paper rolls as centerpieces for our tables. The pièce de résistance was our unofficial staff mascot, a shiny glitter dog named River dressed fabulously in toilet paper.

In an effort to elevate our gathering, I ditched the plastic cups and brought out the real glassware. The evening was filled with the elegant clinking of glasses, hearty laughter, and—because nothing says "classy" like improvisation—a few rolls of toilet paper. We toasted to yet another unforgettable happy hour, proving that a touch of sophistication can coexist with a dash of hilarity.

I decided to revamp the design and sprinkle in some extra fun to make her potty training journey a bit more… well, flush with laughter! Here's to the small victories, the creativity in everyday moments, and the joy of celebrating even the quirkiest of holidays. Happy National Toilet Paper Day, and happy potty training, Tess!

I'm excited to share that the whimsical toilet paper banner I designed for our celebration is now available as an instant download through my Etsy store. Bring a touch of fun and nostalgia to your own gatherings with this quirky decoration. Check it out and let the festivities roll on!
