Pirate Party Root Beer Float
An often forgotten classic, a root beer float can be a fun surprise for both kids and adults. To make these delicious pirate root beer floats, follow the instructions below, which include all the supplies I used.
Supplies
- Vanilla Ice Cream: 2 scoops per float. Go with your favorite brand (or what's on sale).
- Root Beer: A&W root beer. I think you can skip the fancy root beer, as the ice cream will dominate the flavor.
- Whipped Cream: Go with your favorite! For Adult version, I used vodka whipped cream.
- Serving Cups: 15 oz plastic cup.
- Serving Spoon: 7 in plastic spoon.
- Sprinkles: Red & Black decorative sprinkles.
- Chocolate Ice Cubes: Follow the recipe here to prepare in advance.
- Ice Cube Trays: Pirate Skulls & Small Skulls
- Pirate Straws: To distinguish between the adult version and the kids version, I used different sets of straws.
- Captain Mickey and Pirate Minnie straws for kids. Available on Etsy.
- Pirate skulls for the grown-up version. Available on Etsy.
Assembly Instructions
Make Chocolate Ice cubes in Advance: Follow these instructions. Freezing time may take several hours. Smaller ice cube trays freeze faster. Using these mini skull trays, I quickly made multiple batches, storing them in a Tupperware with baking paper in between each layer.
P.S. I used this recipe to create a coffee version for the adults. It turned out really charming, but I'd probably skip it to save time. There’s so much to manage for kids' parties, so it's best to keep things simple whenever possible.
To Serve:
- Scoop the Ice Cream: Add two generous scoops of vanilla ice cream to each glass.
- Pour the Root Beer: Slowly pour the root beer over the ice cream. Pouring slowly will help prevent the foam from overflowing. Try tilting glass when pouring to reduce foam.
- Top with Whipped Cream: Swirl on whipped cream.
- Vodka Whipped Cream: For an adult version, top your float with vodka-infused whipped cream.
- Add Decorations: Sprinkle the sprinkles. Add pirate ice cubes. Insert straw and spoon.
- Serve Immediately: Dive into your root beer float!
- To best enjoy: start by eating the ice cream - let it melt a bit before diving into the root beer. Spoon first, straw second.
