Sailing into a Pirate Mickey Themed Adventure
Ahoy, mateys! When my daughter turned three, I knew I had to throw a birthday party that would match her adventurous spirit and love for her favorite characters. Inspired by the pirate-themed episode of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and her fascination with Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean ride, I embarked on a journey to create the ultimate Captain Mickey party. Here’s how.
Dead Men Tell No Tales
Quick story: when she was two, we had her watch POV videos of the ride to help from being scared. It worked - a little too well. During my favorite ride, Living with the Land, we were surprised when, as we approached a small tunnel, she shouted in her best pirate voice, “Dead men tell no tales!” This caused everyone on the boat to burst into laughter, and it’s a moment I will cherish forever.

Root Beer Floats for Pirates Only
An often forgotten classic, a root beer float can be a fun surprise for both kids and adults. To make these delicious pirate root beer floats, follow the instructions here, which include all the supplies I used. And here is a how-to on the chocolate pirate ice cubes. The paper straws are a part of my Mickey and Minnie Pirate collection available on Etsy.
Captain Mickey and Pirate Minnie Decor
Fun fact: Dick Van Dyke voices Goofy's grandpappy, Captain Goof-Beard.
To keep our mini pirates entertained, I organized themed activities that encouraged creativity and fun. I created a pirate-themed coloring table cover that provided endless fun for all ages. It was a great way for kids and adults to mingle while adding their artistic touch to the party.
Craft Station: Treasure Map Suncatchers
For a swashbuckling craft station, we made treasure map suncatchers. Kids and adults dove into the colorful tissue papers, and before long, the room was filled with gleeful chaos. The craft was a hit, leaving a delightful mess that perfectly captured the adventurous spirit of the day.
Seeing the joy this activity brought, I decided to transform the idea into a Pirate Treasure Map Suncatcher Craft Kit, now available on Etsy. It's a perfect way to bring a piece of our pirate adventure into your home, offering hours of fun for crafty pirates everywhere!
Make Your Own Mickey and Minnie Pirate Hats
Pirate Playlist
I curated a YouTube playlist featuring classics like pirate songs, sea shanties, and even ride POVs from Pirates of the Caribbean. To avoid commercials, I signed up for a free trial of YouTube Premium.
Pirate Ship Silhouettes
Using my Cricut, I cut silhouettes of pirate ships, sea monsters and treasure islands for our front windows. In front of these windows, I suspended paper boats with black sails. These not only created an amazing view from outside, but also created a really cool shadow effect on our living room walls.
Blow-up Pirate Ship
Intended as a drink cooler, this blow-up pirate ship became the perfect play area for the kids. Placed on the floor, it allowed the children to embark on their own seafaring adventures.
Throwing this Pirate Mickey themed birthday party was a labor of love, and seeing the joy on my daughter's face made it all worthwhile. The combination of creativity, fun activities, and themed refreshments created a treasure trove of memories for everyone involved. I hope this guide inspires you to set sail on your own pirate adventure and create unforgettable celebrations for your little ones!
