Create Your Own DIY Rocking Ship: A Fun and Easy Guide

We've got a treasure trove of resources, including a link to our exclusive craft kit, a video tutorial for visual learners, and step-by-step instructions to guide you through every stage of this adventure. Before we start, let's make sure we have everything we need.

Materials Needed

If you're crafting from scratch, check out my original craft video for a full tutorial—here is that link.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Building the Base: Step One

  1. Inner Box: Glue or tape the two tabs inside the box without folding the wave section.

  2. Outer Box: Fold and secure all tabs with glue or tape to form a box shape.

Getting Sea Legs: Step Two

  1. Discs and Straws: Use the four large and four small circles provided. Attach a smaller circle with a hole to one without a hole, then repeat.

  2. Straws: Cut a paper straw into two 3-inch pieces. Glue each piece to a disc using the hole as a guide.

  3. Assembly: Insert the straw ends into the holes on the top of the outer box. Glue kraft paper to the bottom of each disc for alignment.

Making Waves: Step Three

  1. Large Discs: Glue two large discs back to back, aligning the holes. Repeat with the other pair.

  2. Assembly: Insert a long straw into the box's designated hole. Add the large discs and secure them with tape or glue.

  3. Combine Boxes: Slide the inner box into the outer box and secure them together.

Ship Shape: Step Four

  1. Cut Ships: Trim the printed pirate ship images. Align them back to back and trim excess paper.

  2. Attach Ships: Attach one ship to both straws using tape or glue, ensuring straws are at the back.

  3. Finalize: Align and secure the second ship on top.

Set Sail: Step Five

Your pirate ship is ready to rock! Turn the straw to watch it sail the seas. Congratulations on crafting your own pirate ship!
